Defending Champion Jannik Sinner Advances to Wimbledon Semifinals

June 23, Kathmandu – Defending champion Jannik Sinner has secured his place in the semifinals of the Wimbledon tennis tournament. In the quarterfinals held on Tuesday, world number one Sinner defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3, to advance to the final four.

The 24-year-old Sinner achieved his best performance to date in the tournament, claiming victory in one hour and 56 minutes. With this win, he has set a new record by achieving 12 consecutive match wins at Wimbledon, a streak that began with last year’s title run.

Moreover, before turning 25, Sinner has reached the semifinals of a Grand Slam for the 10th time, becoming only the fifth player since 2000 under the age of 25 to reach this milestone. This elite group includes Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Carlos Alcaraz.

Sinner will now face either Canada’s Félix Auger-Aliassime or Serbia’s Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. This victory marks Sinner’s 42nd win of 2026 so far. Remarkably, he has won 35 of his last 36 matches, maintaining an outstanding record.
