FIFA Initiates Investigation into Alleged Racist Abuse Between Influencer IShowSpeed and Argentine Fan

June 24, Kathmandu – FIFA, the global governing body of football, has launched an investigation into allegations of racially abusive behavior reportedly involving American social media influencer IShowSpeed and an Argentine supporter. The incident allegedly occurred during Argentina’s 3-2 victory over Cape Verde on Friday. FIFA has confirmed that it is aware of the event, which took place during the Round of 32 match at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium on July 3, and has promptly begun an inquiry.

IShowSpeed, who commands 57 million subscribers on YouTube and 53 million followers on TikTok, has been live streaming matches throughout the tournament. Some of his streams have featured notable figures such as FIFA President Gianni Infantino and former Barcelona and AC Milan forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Footage on his YouTube channel shows a confrontation between IShowSpeed and a 21-year-old Argentine fan wearing a Cape Verde jersey at Speed Parapit.

In an official statement, FIFA emphasized, “The World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity, and respect. It brings together people, cultures, and communities from around the world. Anyone who undermines these values has no place in our sport.” This incident involving IShowSpeed emerges just days after France’s forward Kylian Mbappé condemned racist remarks made by a Paraguayan senator targeting Mbappé’s background and education. Mbappé described those comments as “disgusting and unfit for his office.” The senator in question, Celeste Amarilla of Paraguay’s Liberal Radical Party, had posted her remarks on social media following Paraguay’s defeat to France in the World Cup Round of 16. The French Football Federation has condemned Amarilla’s comments as “completely hateful and unacceptable” and is preparing to file a criminal complaint.
