Nepal’s Para Asian Games Team Set to Compete with 19 Athletes Across 8 Sports

Nepal will send 19 athletes across 8 sports to the 5th Para Asian Games scheduled from October 18 to 24 in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan. The National Sports Council (NSC) held a farewell ceremony for the team on Friday at its Tripureshwor office. Notably, taekwondo athlete Palesha Govardhan, who won a bronze medal in the 4th edition of the Para Asian Games and is also a bronze medalist at the Paris Paralympics, is part of the contingent.

Extending best wishes for the team’s success, NSC member-secretary Ramcharitra Mehta and NSC member Monalisa Khambu conducted the farewell event at the NSC office in Tripureshwor. Enthusiastically, Nepal’s 19 athletes will compete in various disciplines during the games held from October 18 to 24 in Aichi–Nagoya, Japan.

The Nepali athletes representing the nation include taekwondo competitors Palesha Govardhan and Renu Tamang; athletics participants Prabha Angdembe, Shrishti Dhevaju, Mohan Roka, Himal Aryal, and Raju Gurung; badminton player Prakash Adhikari; table tennis players Keshav Thapa, Digam Singh Chemjong, Nirmala Bhandari, Swikrti Nyaupane, and Bibek Rai; powerlifters Rajani Rai and Pawan Gharti Magar; swimmers Jenisha Kadayat and Harkaman Gharti; judokas Sankalpa Acharya and wheelchair tennis player Rambahadur Tamang.

The team will be guided by experienced coaches including taekwondo coach Kaviraj Negi Lama; Olympian athletics coach Wimala Rana Magar; badminton coach Chhabilal Shahi; table tennis coach Basanta Bharti; powerlifting coach Kablin Maharjan; swimming coach Shubha Shrestha; judo coach Yogendra Bist; and wheelchair tennis coach Suryabhushan Bajracharya. Officials such as Save the Mission’s Kedar Babu Sivakoti are also part of the delegation. The taekwondo and judo squads are set to depart for Japan on Saturday. Nepal has been a consistent participant in the Para Asian Games since the inaugural edition, having secured one medal in the previous four editions.
