Iran Pursues International Efforts to Ensure Justice for School Attack Victims

Iran has announced that it is actively pursuing national and international initiatives to ensure justice for the victims of the February attack on the Shajareh Taybeh School in Minab. According to the state news agency IRNA, Askar Jalalian, the Deputy Minister for Human Rights, stated that various efforts are underway to secure justice for the victims. Jalalian explained that Iran’s legal affairs office is actively advancing judicial procedures for those affected by the school attack, deploying all national resources across the country. However, he did not disclose which international channels are being utilized to advance the judicial process on a global level.
Last month, a fact-finding mission established by United Nations mandate concluded on February 28 that the United States might be responsible for war crimes in two assaults—one at the Minab school and another at a sports complex in Lamerd. Local officials reported that the attack at the Minab school resulted in the deaths of 156 individuals, including 120 students and 26 female teachers. Independent sources cited by the UN mission estimated the death toll to be 157, among them children as young as six years old. Jalalian emphasized the government’s special efforts to inform the international community about the Minab school attack and to integrate this event into Iran’s national historical narrative.
