Hungary Affirms Legal Right to Block €9 Billion Military Loan to Ukraine

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has asserted that his country holds the legal authority to block the €9 billion military loan designated for Ukraine. Orbán clarified that the loan approval will not proceed if Ukraine does not lift the sanctions imposed on oil supplies from Russia via the Druzhba pipeline.

Following the European Union (EU) Council’s decision to allocate the loan by December 2025, Hungary, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic had already indicated their refusal to participate. Speaking to journalists after the EU summit held in Brussels, Orbán stated, “However, the situation has now changed; Ukraine has imposed a blockade on oil supplies to Hungary.”

According to Orbán, the loan requires unanimous consent from all EU member states, which remains uncertain due to objections from Hungary and Slovakia. He further added, “Had Ukraine imposed the blockade in December, we would have outright rejected the loan. Now that the blockade is ongoing, I cannot pretend nothing is happening.”

Drone Attack Targets Kuwait’s Major Oil Refinery Amid Middle East Conflict

As the ongoing conflict between the US, Israel, and Iran in the Middle East enters its third week, Kuwait’s Mina Al-Ahmadi oil refinery was struck by a significant drone attack early this morning. According to Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, the refinery experienced fires at several units caused by a series of coordinated attacks using Iranian drones. This incident marks the second major assault on Kuwait’s oil infrastructure within just two days. Following the attack, several critical plants within the refinery were temporarily shut down for security reasons.

According to the Kuwaiti news agency Kuna, there have been no reported human casualties so far, and firefighters are actively working to bring the blaze under control. It is believed that this attack was carried out in retaliation for Israel’s recent bombing of Iran’s South Pars gas field. In addition to Kuwait, Iran also launched missile and drone strikes today against Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia, pushing crude oil prices above $116 per barrel in global markets.
