October 7, Kathmandu – In an interview with Reuters, U.S. Vice President JD Vance emphasized that Iranian officials must drastically reduce their uranium enrichment capacity to bring an end to the conflict with the United States.
Vance stated, “If you don’t want nuclear weapons, why do you need fuel enriched to 60 percent? And if you want to demonstrate a commitment to not build nuclear weapons, then don’t produce highly enriched fuel. This is a very fundamental condition when ending the war.”
He added, “I believe if they want to show a commitment to not developing nuclear weapons, they will take meaningful steps regarding their enrichment capabilities.”
The Vice President noted that the United States remains open to reaching an agreement but demands concrete flexibility from Iran in the nuclear arena. He said, “We won’t engage in exchanging words instead of actions.”
According to Vance, the situation has become complex because Washington is uncertain about who holds decision-making power in Tehran. He mentioned that the U.S. has engaged in talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
However, he claimed it remains unclear how much influence these officials wield within Iran’s power structure. Vance remarked, “One thing we have discovered is that it is not entirely clear how their country comes to decisions.”
