USA Clinches ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 Title with Two Matches Remaining

October 9, Kathmandu – The USA has secured the title of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2. On Wednesday, at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, the USA defeated Namibia by 4 wickets, thus confirming their championship in League 2. Chasing a target of 299 runs set by Namibia, the USA reached the total in 48.5 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process.
Captain Monank Patel played a pivotal role by scoring a century with 108 runs. Smith Patel contributed 50 runs, while Shehan Jayasuriya added 74 runs. Along with Monank’s composed batting, the crucial contributions from Smith and Jayasuriya helped the USA successfully chase the challenging target. The USA reached the target with seven balls to spare.
This victory added two more points to the USA’s tally in the League 2 standings, confirming their title. Although other teams among the eight participating sides still have remaining fixtures, none can now surpass the USA on points. The USA has accumulated 47 points from 34 matches. Scotland, in second place, has 45 points from 36 matches. The Netherlands is third with 38 points from 32 matches, and Oman is fourth with 31 points from 28 games. Even if Oman wins all their remaining matches, the USA’s higher number of wins ensures they will remain at the top of the table.
The USA had already secured their place in the World Cup Qualifier tournament previously. With this League 2 title, the USA will gain further opportunities to qualify for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, which will be held next year in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, by competing in the qualifying tournaments.
