Nepal Medical Council Warns Doctors Against Giving Medication Advice on Social Media

The Nepal Medical Council has issued a warning to doctors who provide medication and treatment advice through social media platforms. The Council highlighted that offering advice about medication use and treatment on social media poses serious health risks. Medical practitioners who violate the established guidelines will face legal action, the Council warned.

On March 18, in an official statement, the Nepal Medical Council noted an increasing trend of doctors sharing treatment methods, medication usage, and health-related content under the name of ‘online consultation’ on social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram. The Council cautioned that such content could lead patients to self-medicate, adopt incorrect treatments, and consequently suffer serious health complications.

“Healthcare is an extremely sensitive sector, and advising medication use or treatment without direct examination and necessary tests via social media is risky,” the statement emphasized. Such practices may seriously endanger patients’ health. The Council urged doctors and health workers to exercise particular caution when using social media and mandated compliance with specific guidelines. When sharing videos or information involving patients, obtaining consent and ensuring the confidentiality of patient identities is required. Furthermore, direct medication advice to patients through social media is strongly discouraged.

The Council stressed that health information and consultations must be based on scientific evidence, verified facts, and professional ethical standards. Medical decisions should be made following direct examination and certified treatment procedures, rather than relying solely on social media information. Dr. Satish Kumar Dev, Registrar of the Council, issued this notice and warned that failure to adhere to these guidelines will result in penalties under existing laws for the responsible doctors or health workers.

Shashi Tharoor Strongly Criticizes Government’s Plan Linking Women’s Reservation to Delimitation

During the special session of the Indian Parliament, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor vehemently criticized the government’s plan to link women’s reservation with delimitation. Tharoor described delimitation as a ‘political demonetization’ and warned that it could jeopardize the federal structure. He argued that tying women’s reservation to a complex administrative process hinders the aspirations of Indian women. April 17, Kathmandu.

Speaking on the second day of the three-day special session in the Lok Sabha, Shashi Tharoor sharply condemned the government’s attempt to associate women’s reservation with delimitation. He cautioned that rushing the delimitation process poses risks to the federal framework and identified it as a form of ‘political demonetization.’ Furthermore, he raised awareness about the potential harm this could cause to the country.

Participating in the debate, Tharoor remarked that the government has turned women’s reservation into a “gift wrapped in barbed wire” by entangling it in the complicated census and delimitation process. He stated that women’s reservation could be implemented immediately but has been blocked by linking it to a highly contentious and complex administrative procedure, thereby thwarting Indian women’s demands.

Prior to Tharoor’s speech, DMK MP Kanimozhi expressed concerns about the negative impact delimitation could have on the federal structure. Tharoor highlighted that delimitation would politically disadvantage South Indian states, where population control has already been achieved, while states with higher population growth would gain greater political significance. Questioning this, he asked, “Are we about to regard the outcomes of good governance as politically insignificant?” He also pointed out constitutional and economic issues, such as states contributing more to the national income receiving a smaller share, and the increasing size of the Lok Sabha disrupting balance with the Rajya Sabha. However, on the debate’s first day, the Prime Minister assured that delimitation would continue as before, with no changes, addressing concerns raised by opposition parties.

Speaker Pledges to Facilitate Journalists’ Access to Parliament

April 17, Kathmandu – Speaker Dol Prasad (DP) Aryal has expressed his commitment to making it easier for journalists to access the Parliament and parliamentary committees for their reporting. In response, Speaker Aryal explained that the current Parliament building is a temporary structure, which has presented practical challenges. He expressed confidence that once the new permanent Parliament building is completed, these physical barriers will be resolved. Highlighting the importance of a strong relationship between Parliament and the press for strengthening democracy, he affirmed his commitment to facilitating journalists’ access and providing the necessary support for transparent and effective reporting of parliamentary activities.

First Pakistani Crude Oil Tanker Successfully Exits Hormuz Strait Amid Rising Tensions

Amid ongoing tensions in the Persian Gulf following US and Israeli military actions, the first Pakistani crude oil tanker has successfully passed through the Hormuz Strait. The Aframax tanker named ‘Shalamar’ traversed south of Iran’s Larak Island and entered the Gulf of Oman just days after the US-imposed blockade began. The vessel is scheduled to dock at Karachi Port on Sunday, carrying approximately 450,000 barrels of crude oil.

Since the full US blockade commenced last Monday, ‘Shalamar’ became the first carrier to navigate this strategic waterway. According to ship tracking data, this Pakistani-flagged Aframax tanker departed late Thursday, passing south of Larak Island in Iran and entering the Gulf of Oman. Loaded with about 450,000 barrels of crude oil from Das Island in the United Arab Emirates, the ship is set to arrive at Karachi Port this Sunday.

The tanker embarked with roughly half of its full capacity, and its voyage has attracted significant attention in international markets. Since late February, when the US and Israel initiated airstrikes against Iran, maritime traffic through this narrow passage has drastically reduced. The current US naval blockade requires mandatory approvals from both Iranian and US authorities for transporting oil or other goods out of the Persian Gulf.

Although several supertankers have exited the region over the past week, it is rare for a crude oil tanker to have crossed the Hormuz Strait in the last seven weeks. While Iran has granted special permissions to some Pakistani vessels, ‘Shalamar’s’ passage through the strait mere days after the blockade began is considered unusual from both diplomatic and strategic perspectives. This development signals a potential, albeit limited, resumption of oil supplies through one of the world’s most critical maritime routes. However, due to the tense environment, the number of vessels transiting remains in single digits.

5 Effective Home Remedies to Eliminate Odor from Socks

During the summer months, sweat and bacteria cause unpleasant odors in socks, which can lead to socially embarrassing situations. The hot season has already begun, and many people prefer to wear shoes during this time. Wearing socks with shoes is considered essential. However, wearing socks in summer often results in odor problems. When shoes are taken off, the smell can be quite embarrassing. Some individuals experience odor even a few hours after washing the socks used throughout the day. Fortunately, by adopting some simple and home-based remedies, this problem can be resolved.

The main cause of sock odor is sweat and bacteria. When feet sweat, the number of bacteria increases, and these bacteria produce waste that leads to foul smells. If socks are not cleaned and dried properly, the problem worsens. Below are five effective home remedies to remove odor from socks:

1. Use Salt Water: Soak socks in salt water before washing. This kills bacteria and completely removes odor from the socks.
2. Use Baking Soda: Baking soda can help eliminate bad smells. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of baking soda when washing socks. It thoroughly cleans the socks.
3. Rose Water: Rose water can also be used to remove odor. Spraying rose water inside shoes before wearing them helps keep odors at bay for a longer time.
4. Wear Clean Socks Daily: In hot weather, wear a different pair of socks every day. Arrange at least two pairs of socks and wash and dry the pair worn during the day every evening.
5. Keep Shoes Clean: Not only socks but also shoes must be kept clean. Dirt inside shoes can contribute to odor spreading to the socks.

A Mother’s Gaze: An Emotional Journey Through Poetry

This editorial summary is prepared after a review. The poem narrates the story of Angi’s dreams lost in her eyes and the unchanged color of her gaze over time. The flower-patterned bag left by Asyang is filled with tears, neglect, and struggle, and today it sets off on a farewell journey over the pyre. Although the new year and seasonal changes bring new life to nature, the poem expresses that the color of Angi’s eyes remains unchanged. Lost within her own light, a flickering lamp of hope—the long, exhausting night has suddenly gone out!

Within Angi’s blurry eyes lie salt-colored dreams, like a solitary moon lost within the clouds, vanishing into vast chilly settlements, scattered in gusts of wind! Each year a new year arrives in Angi’s courtyard after earth completes one rotation. Seasons change and spring hangs over the fields, clouds sighing deeply as they descend to meet the earth. Even strands of milkweed and coriander leaves have grown anew, but unchanged, unchanged remains the color of Angi’s eyes!

What year, what season? Much time has passed since Asyang left—that sorrowful flower-patterned bag! Filled with tears, neglect, and struggle, that very bleak flower-patterned bag, without resting, climbed rugged slopes, traveled tens of kilometers, and today, unexpectedly and without asking Angi, departed via the path across the pyre, never to return! Today is the day to see the mother’s face! (Chief, Area Police Office, Sijuwa)
