Police have arrested 28-year-old Dhanraj Yadav from Dhanusha for allegedly attacking an 18-year-old youth with a sharp weapon in Narephat, Kathmandu. The victim, 18-year-old Karan Kumar Sah from Siraha, filed a complaint at the New Baneshwor police station, accusing Yadav of attempted murder and robbery. Preliminary investigation indicates that the assault was motivated by revenge within the family.

On June 23, at around 2 p.m., the attack occurred in Kathmandu Metropolitan City–32 Narephat. Kathmandu District Police Office’s Superintendent of Police, Pawan Bhattarai, identified the suspect as Dhanraj Yadav, currently residing in Tikathali, Lalitpur, but originally from Dhanusha. The injured, Karan Kumar Sah, hails from Karjanha Municipality–10 in Siraha and currently lives in Narephat.

Following the complaint, police began their investigation. In addition to Yadav, complaints have been lodged naming five to six unidentified individuals, also reportedly involved in the incident, all believed to be from Dhanusha and residing in Tikathali. Authorities continue to search for other suspects connected to the case.

Karan Kumar Sah sustained injuries to his hands, back, neck, and head from the stabbing. Police reports indicate the conflict involved an uncle and his nephew. When the uncle attempted to mediate, the nephew allegedly assaulted the uncle in Tikathali. The uncle then retaliated by attacking his nephew, according to the police investigation.

During recent visits to France, Belgium, and Switzerland, European investors expressed keen interest in establishing businesses and engaging with Hong Kong’s investment framework.

Chan noted that there is a strong desire for change in Europe, with efforts focused on building increased economic resilience through multilateral cooperation and risk diversification. In his weekly blog, he wrote that markets in China and the broader Asia-Pacific region represent significant opportunities for European businesses, and that Hong Kong serves as an ideal gateway to leverage these prospects and expand commercial activities.

He also mentioned that European financial institutions have sought advice regarding Hong Kong’s licensing requirements, business setup timelines, and local investment systems. Chan emphasized that Hong Kong provides a variety of investment options and risk management tools for cross-border asset management.

The International Monetary Fund, in its 2026 Article IV Consultation report, reaffirmed the city’s economic resilience and respected status as an international financial hub. Chan extended an invitation to representatives from the European Union and international organizations to visit Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area.

Police in Mechinagar-6, Jhapa, rescued 32-year-old Hari Thapa from Palpa, who was found unconscious near the bus park with Rs 118,000 in cash. The recovered cash has been secured at the Kankadbhitta Police Station. Despite being discharged from the hospital, Thapa has not yet made contact with the police.

On May 24, reporters were informed by Khagendra Bahadur Khadka, spokesperson for the District Police Office and Deputy Superintendent of Police, that Hari Thapa of Rampur Rural Municipality-2 in Palpa was found lying unconscious on the road near Mechinagar Municipality-6 bus park, around 6 p.m. on Saturday due to excessive consumption of intoxicants. The Kankadbhitta Police Office promptly rescued him along with the cash amounting to Rs 118,000.

After rescue, Thapa was immediately taken to Amda Hospital in Dhulabari for treatment. Although he was discharged from the hospital, he has not yet contacted the police, according to DSP Khadka. The police have also tried to reach him via his mobile phone, but the calls have gone unanswered. The recovered money is securely held at the Kankadbhitta Police Station and will be entrusted to him once he makes contact. Having returned recently from India, Thapa had already purchased a ticket from the Nepal-India bus service to travel to Kathmandu by night bus on Saturday. However, under the influence of intoxicants, he missed his bus.

Animal rights activists staged a demonstration at Maiti Ghar Mandala on Sunday, demanding strict legislation. They urged the government to immediately enact the ‘Animal Welfare Act’. The activists appealed to the new government to promptly implement this law, which had been left pending for years by the previous administration. Carrying slogans such as ‘Animals have the right to live on this earth; they must not be killed,’ they raised their voices in protest.

During the protest, the activists publicly presented a 16-point demand prepared by the Sara Janawar Udhar Kendra (Sara Animal Rescue Center). They highlighted the outdated and weak nature of Nepal’s existing animal-related laws and called for the new government to introduce a comprehensive act to protect animal rights. One key demand is to impose strict penalties, including imprisonment ranging from 5 to 10 years and fines of millions of rupees, for any cruelty against domestic animals such as dogs.

The activists also called for the application of scientific standards in animal husbandry, transport, and slaughterhouses, along with the formation of a dedicated committee to supervise and regulate cattle and dog farms. They urged the immediate cessation of trapping and killing monkeys using snares. They identified negligence at dog breeding centers as a primary cause of the increasing stray dog problem and insisted on stringent regulation of these centers. Moreover, they demanded mandatory registration and microchipping of animals like dogs and cats.

Vishwaram Karki, director of Sara Janawar Udhar Kendra, stated, “There is currently a move in parliament to authorize killing monkeys. But we firmly assert that no animal should be harmed. Until their rights are protected, we will continue our protests.” The demonstration saw significant participation from local animal lovers, volunteers, and representatives of various animal welfare organizations. The activists also warned that the movement would continue as long as the government failed to address their demands.
